Medicare deserves to be destroyed, and destroying it would be better for current and future generations, young and old. So why not make that case? Other than a committed socialist ideologue, no one in his right mind would vote to implement Medicare today — not if we were on a clean slate and knew what we know now about its ruinous operation...
Medicare is a scam. The people who designed and perpetuated it would be serving more jail time than Bernie Madoff if they pulled a fraud like it in the private sector. As it is for the victims Madoff swindled, so it is for we who’ve been swindled by Washington: The money is gone. We can make provisions for the needy elderly who are about to hit eligibility and have relied on Medicare in their asumptions. But the party is over — and the sooner we grasp that, the fewer victims there will be.
Preserving a scam in the vain hope of making it less offensive may be well-meaning, but it’s not right, and it’s not courageous.

mccarthy nije neocon. zapravo on je poznat po tome sto, u okviru national review, generalno kontrira neocon-ovima (lowry, goldberg etc)
I da je neokon stretegija bi im bila nešto kao Dinkićeva. Prvo 8 godina na vlasti ništa na tome ne urade, štaviše Bush proširi Medicare, a onda se u opoziciji sete šta treba.

Nije bas da nema, Peter Schiff o tome trubi vec godinama (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8S4UI7yH7VU). Cak se i neke analogije poklapaju (i.e. nazivanje Medicare i Social security Ponzi/Madoff schemes).
poenta je da se ne moze koristiti mccarthy kao primer da su neoconovi veci libertarijanci od libertarijanaca, kad mccarthy uopste nije neocon (mada nije ni libertarijanac). naprotiv, neoconovi (poput ryana, ekipe sa weekly standarda i nekolicine njih na national review) su jedna od njegovih najcescih meta.
Nisam rekao da su neokonovi najveci liberali. Pre sam rekao da je jedan, slazem se, atipicni neokon, najhrabriji po mom sudu u zagovaranju libertarijanizma.
Cak i da odbacimo sasvim taj epitet neokon i prihvatimo recimo "tradicionalni Reagan konzervativac", poenta jednako vredi.
